I have stumpled upon several data visualizations that chronicle the obesity epidemic of our friends south of the border. I noticed that the states that were usually coloured the most violent shades of red (red being bad, of course) were states that we typically think of as...red. I sorted the states by rate of obesity and dvided them into two groups using the number of states won by the GOP in each of the last three elections as a cutoff (I know, very scientific). I then compared the grouping of states by obesity rates to the election results.
This was done purely out of interest and to play around with D3.js. I am not trying to express a political opinion or cause offense.
Furthermore, I don't have any evidence to believe that either variable causes the other. There are likely many confounding variables. There may be as much causality between these variables as there is between shark attacks and ice cream consumption (Google it, if that sounds silly).
